Initial Commitments From DSM and Herbalife help GAIN kick-off Future Fortified [LU1] In September 2011, DSM and Herbalife helped GAIN kick-off the Future Fortified campaign at an annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative in New York City. With an initial joint commitment of 20 million micronutrient powder MixMe packets from DSM and Herbalife, these partners are helping to ensure that pregnant women, new mothers and their young children receive the critical nutrients they need for healthy pregnancies and optimal growth and development. This joint contribution is working in Ethiopia and Kenya to improve the quality of food consumed in the home and fill basic nutritional gaps. More than 12 million people in the Horn of Africa are at risk of disease and widespread malnutrition due to drought, escalating food prices and ongoing conflict. Read the Commitment Announcement.

This is just a first step. As a second stage of this partnership, we will develop long-term, market-based business models utilizing the strengths of each partner to ensure that nutritious, affordable products are available to vulnerable populations on a daily basis.
